Mr Chewy is the Best

When shopping locally I compare stores.

Target vs. Walmart , Lowes vs. Home Depot , Petco vs. Petsmart

Now that im shopping online for dog food/treats I’ve started to comare online stores.

 Mr Chewy vs Petflow

Well we at Hound Girl choose MR CHEWY

I did a review for Mr Chewy the other month and cant be happier with their products and service. When I posted that review I got several emails about other pet owners asking questions why I choose Mr Chewy over Petflow and I was more than happy to share my personal opinion.

1. Mr Chewy has a larger supply of the grain free products that we love.

2.  They offer free shipping for orders over $49.00 where petflow only offers free shipping for orders over $59.00

3.  I ordered an item that was on back order from both companies and was impressed more with how the Mr Chewy customer service handled the back order issue.

4.  The online ordering system with Mr Chewy was very user friendly compared to petlow.

Petfow seems to focus on reaccuring shipments so that you dont have to worry about ordering. So if you are not up for that you need to be careful to uncheck a box through the ordering process to let them know you DONT want reaccuring shipments, to me personally this was a turn off that I have to make sure to do that and I almost missed the box.

**These opnions are my own and this is my personal experience and review after ordering from both companies.

Because Mr. Chewy Rocks they have offered one of my readers a $50 gift certificate to use on their site so you can experience why we love Mr. Chewy so much/*{literal}{/literal}*/

My Love For BC

My love for BC as in Big Carl.  I grew up with small dogs but was a big dog girl at heart.  When it came time for me as an adult to get a dog I went straight to thinking about the big dogs.

I started following  Dog Is God In Reverse along time ago and fell right in love with BC from the start.

I joke all the time with his mommy that we could do a time share with Big Carl and he could come to Texas and stay half the year with us!   Hopefully when the time is right I can go rescue my very own BC, which I will name him BC2 (Big Carl Two)!

Until then I will keep hoping that BC causes trouble at his house so his mommy will ship him to me!

Fred and the Bump

Fred has had a growth on his side for a little over a week, we have been keeping a close eye on it.  Its doubled in that week so I put a call into the vet yesterday when I got home.  He wanted to see Fred, so Fred and I loaded up and off to the vet we went.

Its not the best picture because a certain hound wouldn’t stand still but you can see the growth

My vet did have a gut feeling that it was non cancerous but he did want to remove it.  With Fred being an epileptic dog we try not to sedate him due to the increase risk of him seizing.

Fred was a little nervous today and positioned himself between the exam table and the chair, in hopes that the doc wouldnt see him!

I opted not to go into the “back” with Fred this time.  One of my favorite vet techs was there to console Fred.  I was a little too nervous and that wasn’t going to help Fred.  Today he was very scared at the vet so I just didnt want to make it worse.

Fred has 4 staples and some stitches, he ate his dinner like a champ and slept very well last night.  Staples will come out in about 2 weeks.  Hopefully we can avoid the cone as long as he leaves it alone!

I did opt out of getting his growth biopsied, I did this for several reasons

  1.  The vet had a gut feeling it was not cancer – I love my vet and do trust him.
  2.   If it was cancer I would not subject Fred to chemo – he has been through enough in his life, we would just live day by day and enjoy the time we had.
  3.  I would rather take that $140 and spend it on Fred with things he loves and to spoil him!

Yes I give supplements to my dog

A year ago I knew there were dog supplements and vitamins out there but I wasn’t that over obsessed dog owner who would give supplements to my dogs.  Fast forward a year and now I give supplements twice a day to my dogs! Sigh…. So I am that dog obsessed owner, jokes on me!

There is one product that I adore!  This is not a paid post this is just me sharing with you one of my favorite products that I use for the two hounds from hell.

I’ve seen the results of giving these supplements to the dogs and now my vet even commented on how soft Haylie’s coat is now.  He asked what I was doing.  Haylie is a lab with a little curl in her hair and it can become very coarse.  She also is a dark chocolate color and you can see dandruff at times and especially during the winter when the weather cools off.  I haven’t seen any dandruff since using these supplements.

ALC INovators, Inc. is the makers of IN® Supplements for Dogs.  This is a product (Blue Label-Chicken) I have been giving the duo these for quite a while.  For me personally, I think it is a great supplement for them.

One of the things I like about the supplements is that they are soft and the size of a piece of kibble.  The small soft nuggets make it easy for any dog to have-no matter what age, breed or size.  The instructions are simple-Feed One Nugget Daily, Per Each 5# Your Dog Weighs.  You can give a nugget as a treat, as a reward or crumble over food.

What is in IN Supplements for Dogs?  The following information was taken directly from their website:

IN® Supplement for dogs: A daily nutritional supplement to provide dogs with the live enzymes, essential fatty acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins that they require to enhance their immune system and to help keep their coat and skin in top condition. The IN® Supplement for dogs is manufactured in the form of a semi-soft nugget that can be given as a treat. IN® is designed to be taken by dogs and cats of all breeds, sizes and ages and can safely be administered each day for the life of the animal.

Yeee – Haw

Scott’s family has some land here in Texas that they have cattle on.

I’ve been wanting to take some pictures of the cows and try my hand at photographing something other than people and dogs!

I’m currently going through the photos and working on them but this picture above was taken with my iPhone to hold you over.

I did take a video and you can hear and see the jackass that stays with the cows.  Just click below.

Feeding the cows

**you will see that some cows may look really skinny.  They are skinny because they have large babies that are still sucking on them – the moms should have already weaned them off but since they are first time mom’s it can take longer for them to kick their baby from suckling.  Please note these cows are kept in great condition and fed a lot, they have a lot of acreage to roam on.

Howdy Howdy

Some of you have noticed we have been away for a bit lately!

Life just got super busy around the Hound Girl homestead but we are back!

So you might ask what I have been up to….

We took our Christmas photo for the non dog cards

I went to see “Tuna Christmas” with all the lovely ladies on Scott’s side of the family.  I had a wonderful time – this show is hilarious!

We had a small Thanksgiving this year at my parents since this is the “Off year” where everyone is at their spouses, so this means everyone will be here for Christmas – its going to be a big group!

I also bought a new Toyota 4runner!  Now I can take both dogs somewhere at the same time!

This is a picture of my port that was irritated from a two day infusion of antibiotics due to some skin ulcers that were infected due to my low immune system from my infusions.

I can’t wait to get around and visit everyone’s blog and hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Review – Mixbook Holiday Photo Cards

Mixbook is a leading photo products company that helps people create custom photo books, cards, and calendars. Whether starting from scratch, or using one of our thousands of professionally designed templates, every Mixbook product is 100% customizable. With Mixbook, you can truly Make It Yours™

I was given the chance to create some Mixbook Christmas photo cards.  This was my first time using mixbook and it was a breeze.

The first card that I made is above – this was a card created by using a Mixbook preset design and text.  I choose this one because it was one of the few cards that were a dog theme card which I thought was awesome since I make cards for my dogs!!

This card above is my second one, on this one I decided to take the elements from the preset design and customize it for two pictures, change colors and move the elements around.  I loved that I was able to use their guidelines but make it my own!

Above is the back of the card that I customized, I thought this was the coolest part of the cards through Mixbook.  I’ve never ordered cards before where I was able to customize the back of the card.  This was my favorite added touch.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

What I've Been Up To Wednesday

For 8 days I stayed at my parents house taking care of their dogs while they took a trip to Florida.

Of course I gave my parents the Hound Girl Pet Sitting family discount on my rates!

Lilly-Bob is in the back and Sawyer-Bob is up front

Joe-Bob is 16 and deaf and going blind but eats like a horse.  He is still trotting around like a champ.

It was a hard week to be gone so long from my own dogs and im happy to be home just as the “Bobs” were happy to have my parents back at home.

Furever Dachshund Rescue – Roxy & Roscoe

For Rescue Me Week I chose to highlight a doxie in honor of growing up with them and my parents current doxies which im house sitting.   I also highlighted some bloodhounds in honor of the famous Fred who made me start this blog.  Today I want to present senior doxies with health issues!

Before Fred got sick with epilepsy and thyroid disease I never really thought about what it was like to have a dog who was on daily medication and considered a special need dog.  I know that I see this section on alot of rescue dog websites but I think it probably scares off alot of people so I can say for sure that the special  need dogs get put last in alot of peoples selection when choosing a dog.

Senior dogs and pairs are even harder so I figure if I can tr and get the word out about Roxy and Roscoe maybe we could find them a home for the holidays!

East Tennessee Bloodhound Rescue – Rescue Me Week Day 3

We couldn’t let Mayzie’s Rescue Me Week go by without highlighting some BLOODHOUNDS!!!

Let me introduce you to East Tennessee Bloodhound Rescue !!!

They currently don’t have any dogs up for adoption but that is okay because they have several dogs that live their life out at the rescue because they are seniors or just have been through too much in their life and deserve the best.

Here is a picture of some of the permanent residents enjoying a nice day outside, what I wouldn’t give to walk out in my backyard and have them hanging out!

The rescue does a wonderful job of campaigning on facebook for donations and spreading the word about bloodhounds that need a home.  If you are on facebook I would love if you would go and “like” their group by clicking HERE

This is "Blondie" - she is the queen senior resident

Since I can’t foster or adopt at this time I love the fact I’m able to donate money to the group easily.  Even if its just a dollar or two it all helps. She currently has a Christmas wish list at walmart for the senior hounds so they can get some presents and I am so excited to go online and shop for them, the best part is that walmart ships for $.97 and I can have it shipped directly to them!
