Again.
Fred had a seizure on Jan 27 2012 – it had been 6 months and 2 days since his last seizure.
Fred had another seizure this morning – making it 13 days since his last.
I’ve had a loss of words for a few weeks and especially today.
I decided since we could use the support and love and im speechless I would leave you with my original post that I did to inform our Hound Girl readers of Fred being diagnosed with Epilepsy.
Fred has canine epilepsy. When Fred has seizures they are Grand Mal and it affects every inch of his body.
Fred started seizing out of the blue over a week ago. He was a healthy happy 4 1/2yr old bloodhound.
Seizures are horrifying. They say it gets easier as time goes by to watch your dog go through it.
As each day passes that he is seizure free I will begin to not jump at every move he makes.
There is nothing I can do to cure him, but I can control his epilepsy.
This takes time, patience, medicine, and one hell of a fight.
Fred is not in any pain, this is something I have to remind myself of daily.
He may be scared after wards but Scott and I are here for him to help him through that scary time and if we are not Haylie is here to assure Fred this is where he belongs.
Right now there is allot of uncertainties but one thing is for sure no one is giving up on him.
We are hopeful but we are scared.
I’m grateful to so many of you that check on us daily, post on your blogs about us, email me like crazy when I need support and allow me to cry to you when I’m scared.
I owe everyone a huge thank you for all your loving and supporting comments.
FRED is a fighter and is ready to FIGHT.

Sorry to hear he has had more seizures. I have heard how scary they are. I wish the medical people knew more about canine epilepsy and how it is passed on.
I’m so sorry to hear this. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Paws crossed for you.
Stewey
Oh no, I am really sorry to hear about Fred’s recent seizures. We are thinking about you…
Boo! We’re very sorry to hear that Fred has had another seizure. Crossed paws and prayers for you – all of you and your vet(s). It’s really scary when a dog has a seizure… I still remember the ones my cocker had when I was 10.
Poor Fred! I know how scary this can be for Fred and his Momma. Our late basset Barney suffered from seizures too! They started when he was two. All I could do was be there for him. Sometimes he’d go months and then just a few days. It was awful. My thoughts are with you and Fred!
I am so sorry to hear this. My paws are crossed for both of you.
Blessings,
Goose
I’m so sorry to hear this, I had hoped the medication was helping Fred. Is there anything you can give him supplementally, like herbs or vitamins that might help? I will send good thoughts and prayers your way, and I’m grateful that Fred has YOU with him. You know about illness and probably are more comfort to him then anyone else. Hang in there ok?
Kari, sorry to hear about Freds recent seizures. I know you are documenting everything in a log on Fred. But since he went so long without one, have noticed something that might have changed in the last 6 months that could have set it off? The only thing I can think that you have changed just recently was taking away the dog beds. Maybe Fred needs his doggie bed back instead of just an ol rug. BOL I just know how tough this is for you and it is so hard on Fred as well, hang in there and as always if their is anything we can do let us know. Hugs and Sniffs, The HoundDogs and Mom
Oh no….we are sorry to hear this. Hopefully you can all figure this out and help him get back to normal. I think about you guys every time I help transport a bloodhound. Purrs to Fred and all of you…..
We’re so bummed to read this…. Fred is a fighter though, he will fight this! Power of the paw with you guys…

Oh poor Fred..and it must be so scary to watch. Really hope the seizures get much less frequent again. Deccy x
Living with an Epi Dog is very scary. Our April also has Epilepsy. She has only had about 5 light seizures and those occurred about 5 years ago. One major seizure about 3 years ago left her unconscious and we thought we lost her. But a phone call to our vet at his home at 6 am and a quick run to his clinic to meet him there saved our April. She was put on Phenobarbital after this and has thankfully been seizure-free since that time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Fred. We share a common bond!
Seizures must be so scary for you
A member of one of the Doberman boards I’m on has a dog who’s developed seizures (I’m sure more than one, but this was pretty recent), and a lot of management, med trying, and food has been discussed there. It’s a lot of work, but what isn’t worth it about our dogs, right?
Kari- I know this is hard for you and for Fred. You are the best mom he could ask for. I’m here if you need to chat, but I’m sure you know that.
Hugs -
Doreen and The Gang @doggiesandstuff
we are so sorry to hear that the seizure is here…we sure hope it will be controlled and he’ll have better days ahead. We’ll keep Fred and you Kari in our thoughts and prayers. Hang in there.
Something might have triggered it as he has been seizure free for so long. Please give Fred a big hug from all of us here.
I guess on some small level you get more used to it, but I can honestly say it does NOT get easier to watch your baby have a seizure. Just like you we have developed a keen eye for strange movements and Payton’s tell signs. They get especially heighten when it’s been a while since her last one. She used to go months without anything but now it’s ever week or two. That’s our normal for now, don’t like it be have accepted it. I try to stay strong for her sake, especially during an episode, but sometimes it still gets to me…even after 5+ years. Just remember to always be grateful for the time we are blessed to have these angels in our lives. Fred is always in our prayers and so are you.
Love,
Christy (and Payton)
Oh Fred!! Hang in there! We used to have an epi-dog, too – Buddy. He’d go for months as well with out a seizure and then have one. Never identified a trigger. But his pheno helped him a lot!
Paws crossed,
-Bart and Ruby
I am sooooooo very sorry. I will have my paws crossed fur Fred.
I’m so sorry. I know it’s so hard to see them go through a seizure. I hope you’re able to get them under control quickly.
Hi Houndgirl: It’s never easy watching something you love go through something like that. I’m not sure it gets any easier either. No one enjoys that sort of thing. At least no one I know. It seems that all you can do is hope to reduce the number of seizures and lengthen the interval between each. Never give up. My mom and dad are still working to get my leggies back and they haven’t given up either, nor have I.
Oh, Kari, we are so sorry to see this. Maybe an adjustment in Fred’s meds will help??? We hope maybe it was just a temporary glitch and things will go more smoothly now. Paws crossed for him and you. Hugs too.

We are remembering our boy Bubba and the uncertainty we felt when he would have seizures. Please know that we are sending you lots of good thoughts and prayers that this cluster of seizures passes!!
I wanted to let you know that I am circling around all of you too- with love and positive thoughts.
Were sad along with you- that theses seizures are happening. It is so hard to watch your furry have these scary moments.
I will keep sending positive thoughts and prayers.

Sending lots of love and prayers for Fred!
Your pal, Pip
It never gets easier to watch the pup you love have trauma and be unable to “make it go away.” But you must know that love is a critical tool for bringing him out of it even at the worst moments. Fred knows your feelings and can sense your anchoring him. Sorry Fred is having seizures again; we send powerful White Dog healing energy and positive hopes that an adjustment in medication gets things back on track.
Oh, I am so sorry! That sucks. It sucks a lot. It is so hard t watch the pooch we love suffer, especially when we don’t really understand the cause or the triggers. We are sending happy, **healthy** thoughts to you and poor Fred. Feel better sweet boy!
So sorry to hear about this. I hope you can work out how to keep him as free from seizures as possible. I think I’ve said before that my niece has seizures, and sometimes it’s just a matter of trying different medications. In her case (she’s had epilepsy for twenty years now) a particular medication will eventually stop working but then they go to other ones and after some time the original ones are cycled back in because they become effective after a time off them.
It is never easy is it, to watch those we love going through something that they don’t understand. It breaks my heart to see my little Izzy have seizures but thankfully she seems to sail through them. Me on the other hand hates it, I hate feeling helpless and not being able to stop it for her but knowing I am not alone facing the evil SM does help a lot, knowing that others are there with a kind word or a helpful suggestion makes all the difference. I am in the minority though I knew Izzy had seizures when I applied to adopt her but I have to be honest I didn’t realize how they would affect me, I would not change a thing though because the positives far outweigh the negatives. She is the most amazing little girl and I love her to bits.
Just know we are here for you if you need us and we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers

So sorry to hear that he’s had more seizures. Sending good vibes and high fives for all… We are now watching both girls here for very mild symptoms.
Paws crossed and our mommy just said a prayer for Fred. Poor fellow. That stinking seizure monster should go away forever. He causes so much trouble for so many of our buddies. Hang in there.

Hey Fred!
We know how those seizure monsters can be! Hang in there!
I have them about twice a month! Mom doesn’t want to do the drug route right now ’cause I recover pretty quickly and they don’t last more than 5 minutes! She would like to compare notes with you though! E-mail any time!
Sending you healing thoughts and prayers! “Power of the Paw” to0! (My new theme – thanks K and R!)
Bark at ya later!

I am terribly saddened that you and Fred are experiencing this again. Hugs and prayers for Fred and you. Keep us posted.
Hang in there, Fred! I know it’s scary but both you and your mom are fighters and we will keep all our fingers and paws crossed for you.

Hugs to you and your family.

Fred, is a strong hound and can live with this problem safely. He can do it!

Kari – my husband used to have grand mal seizures so I know how scary they are. It’s got to be 100 times worse when it’s your dog. I hope you all are doing well. If Fred is anything like my Beau – he’ll hate it – but give him a kiss on his nose for me anyway. Hang in there. g
We are so sorry to hear this. It must be awful for all of you. We will keep you in our prayers, and that the medicines can again get it under control again

You hand in there, Fred! We’re sending woo healing Sibe Vibes! Our Mom’s mama’s dog Mandy had seizures, too. With such a loving, caring family, woo couldn’t be in better paws, big guy.

We saw the news on Mango’s blog and came to offer our best wishes and crossed paws. We hope Fred is doing better and the SM will go back into hibernation for a long time. Mama had a Dane-Lab mix years ago who developed the SM, too, so she knows what you are going through. Get better soon, Fred.
Jed & Abby
I’m so sorry! I’ve been keeping Fred in my prayers since I first learned of his seizures and was hoping that the meds he’s on would make them stop permanently.
You’re both in my thoughts and prayers.
We are so very sorry to hear about Fred. Sending along our prayers that you all will feel better. This is a very hard thing to deal with. xoxo Chloe, LadyBug and Jeanne
We are sending you our love and pawsitive vibes for dear Fred. he’s a real trooper and so are you!
I have been out of “the loop” for 6 months due to a break up with my fiance, a move to a new city, etc, so I am sorry I could not support you when you needed it most. As you know, I own a coon hound and of course knowing that you have a hound got me glued to your blog when you first joined us. I am horrified that your Fred has epilepsy and shocked that the seizures continue. I don’t know much about seizures or this condition but please know that I am here praying, really.
