Smart Bones – Review
Rawhides… I’ve never been a big fan of them, Haylie would engulf them and I was always worried that she would get an obstruction and then I read all the bad chemicals and so forth that the rawhides were made with. Not to mention the nasty gummy slobber it would leave around my house from the bone or on the dog. Needless to say rawhides haven’t been in our house since they were about 5 months old.
Recently I was contacted by Smart Bones and I was more than thrilled when I learned that their product contains NO RAWHIDE!!! Their bones are 99% digestible and filled with vitamins and minerals. Again no rawhide and the bones are digestible!!!!
I checked the mail every day with excitement and then the package arrived and it was perfect because I was walking Haylie that day and we were stopping to get the mail, she instantly could smell the package in my hand. Since Haylie is a large dog we were sent the “Large” bone size and we tried out the peanut butter flavor.
I was extremely happy and very impressed with the Smart Bones and give them 4 paws up. I would recommend these to any dog owner and plan to spread the news to let other dog owners know about this great product.
Here is some information from the Smart Bones website:
Why are SmartBones Fortified with Vitamins and Minerals?
SmartBones chews are produced in a food grade production facility where we can formulate and control each and every ingredient. So we decided to fortify them with vitamins and minerals. By doing this you can be sure that along with their dry kibble dog food your dog’s total diet will remain fully nutritionally balanced. Rawhide and many other chews don’t have the luxury to do this. In fact, even though rawhide analyzes as over 80% protein, the protein is of such poor quality that it is actually “unavailable protein” and has almost zero nutritive value for a dogs body. That’s why SmartBones chews are Smart.
Our standards required more than two years of formulation and re-formulation to finally achieve a 99.2% digestibility – a testament to the high standards and the quality of the ingredients we use. To put this in perspective even the best dog foods achieve only 85% total digestibility. You can rest assured that your dog will get maximum nutritional value from SmartBones chews. Side Benefit: Smaller stools. Smart Bones for Smart Dogs.

I’ve marked your new site in my Google Reader. Did you have to abandon all your old posts at Blogspot when you moved?
No it transfered them over because I did a “export” of my blogger post and “imported” them to wordpress and it copied over all my posts and comments with them!! Thank you for marking our new address – im still getting around to letting everyone know. Are you thinking of switching over?
Love the last picture! Haylie is so happy! That is a pic that needs to be framed!
I was very lucky I got her to look at the camera for once
I couldnt use Fred as my model cause his jowls would have covered the bone, hahaha!

Interesting. Do they break into small pieces? I would be worried that my dogs would try to swallow pieces that are too big.
She did break off the knots at the end and I did get a little worried cause that is what would freak me out when it came to rawhides but I watched her for the next few days and she was fine. The inside part (red color) was very flimsy and digestible. I was worried about some of the peices because the outter shell when broken into peices can be sharp but she chomped it right down. Fred couldnt try these because they did have corn in them and he is on a strict no grain diet for his epilepsy.
Ooooo….those look DEE-lish! How long does one of ‘em last Haylie? Cuz I can go through almost any kind of bone or bully stick in no time flat! Mom’s always looking for something that will take me a little while to eat.

Mayzie girl she tore through this thing
I have yet to find something that is everlasting so if you do find something let us know!! I would say this is a every once in awhile thing. She did go slower with the smart bone than a rawhide I do have to admit.
Haylie girrrrrl that looks delicious. I am a chewer too. I find that the One and Only thingy that REALLY lasts are my Delicious Deer Antlers. I have about 6 of them and One is 4 years old. It is getting a bit SHORTER butt I still LOVE it.
Ive been dying to try these Mr. Frankie – I just havent talked to anyone about them yet. Im so glad to hear you think they are awesome. I might just have to go ahead and try these now!!
Great pics of Haylie. Thanks for the pupreview of the Smart Bones. We don’t get rawhide either or even bully sticks. We will have to see if Mom will try the Smart Bones.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
Have yall tried the deer antlers? we cant have bully sticks – mine get to aggressive over them.
Yes, we have some of those here too and we love them. Mom thinks we need bigger ones so we only get them when supervised. They are a bit expensive.

Those look totally yummy for sure. We have never given rawhide bones either and we tired the deer antler bones and they drove Winston crazy. He never got around to chewing or eating it because he was way to busy rolling and making out with it. BOL….Sniffs, The HoundDogs
Awwww! Haley is so cute! Love the last pic!
